AccessiSight vs UserWay

UserWay adds an on-page accessibility menu without changing a site's underlying code. In July 2024 a small business filed a class action in Delaware alleging UserWay's compliance claims were false and misleading; the case is ongoing.

UserWay (Overlay): A JavaScript accessibility overlay widget, subject of a 2024 class-action lawsuit over its compliance claims. If you're evaluating UserWay for accessibility testing or ADA/WCAG compliance work, here's how it compares to AccessiSight across features, cost, and what each is actually built to do.

UserWay

Pros

  • Quick to install (one line of JS)
  • Provides an on-page menu of display preferences

Cons

  • Does not change the site's source code
  • Named in a July 2024 class action (Bloomsybox.com LLC v. UserWay, D. Del.) alleging misleading ADA/WCAG compliance claims; the claims are unproven and the case is ongoing

AccessiSight Advantage

AccessiSight gives developers the code changes to fix issues at the source instead of adding a widget on top of the page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will UserWay protect me from ADA lawsuits?

No tool can promise that. A July 2024 class action alleges UserWay marketed its widget as ensuring ADA/WCAG compliance and protecting businesses from lawsuits, and that this was misleading; those are allegations, and the case is ongoing. An overlay adjusts the page in the browser but doesn't fix the underlying code that assistive technology reads.

Does AccessiSight use an overlay like UserWay?

No. AccessiSight is a scanning and remediation tool, not an overlay. It finds issues in your pages and gives your developers the code changes to resolve them.
